From the Artist:
Kei Tsuzuki and Molly Luethi — two friends, mothers, and printers living in the high desert of Albuquerque, New Mexico. They founded Kei & Molly Textiles, LLC in 2010 to create both a printing studio dedicated to producing artisan-quality fabric goods as well as a vehicle to develop good jobs in their community.
Supporting our community means a lot to us, and it’s the reason we started this business in the first place! We are located in the International District of Albuquerque, an area home to many of the refugees and recent immigrants to our city. Vibrant with culture, it is nonetheless one of Albuquerque’s pockets of poverty. We are committed to creating good jobs in this area, and work with refugee resettlement programs to find many of our employees. We provide on-the-job training, health and education benefits, flexible hours, and, we hope, a great place to work!
Our printing studio is the heart of our business, and serves as our center for production. We often open up the studio for workshops for the greater community and for sales with other artisans. We believe in sharing our skills while helping to re-vitalize this area’s International District.
Being environmental stewards is also important to us. Our studio uses only water-based, non-toxic inks to minimize our impact on the environment — no plastisol, please! We filter our waste water to 20 microns to keep pigment out of our water system. Our product line is also made using only 100% natural fibers. Waste fabric from our production is often recycled into community projects through schools and community groups.
